Archives of Lesbian Oral History

Summary & Review

Archives of Lesbian Oral Testimony (ALOT) is an online digital archive that collects (and makes publicly available) the oral testimonies of same-sex and same-gender attracted women (trans and two-spirit inclusive, and inclusive of anyone who currently, sometimes, or at any time presented or identified as a woman with same-sex attraction).

They accept donations from researchers, journalists, and film-makers, but one of the most exciting things they do is give interested members of the public the resources to go out and conduct their own oral history interviews and upload them to the website. This is part of an SSHRC-funded initiative called Bridging the Gap, which aims to break down barriers between academic and non-academic communities and democratize knowledge and history.
